The rising Lake Michigan water levels have resulted in the need for shoreline stabilization in many areas including Walbec Group’s Terminal located in Port Milwaukee. Challenged with minimizing erosion on the sheet piling surrounding the facility, Walbec’s family of companies came together to provide a solution. Payne + Dolan designed and engineered a cap and shore wall and Zenith Tech constructed the system. Collaboratively, they developed a solution to prevent further erosion and protect the facility.

Phase one began in fall 2020 with foundation prep, excavation for the wall, installation of structural components, and forming/pouring concrete. 2000 feet of shoreline is being repaired in the first phase and will be completed this spring. Phase two, currently in design and scheduled to begin later in 2021, will include the reconstruction of a portion of the sheet piling wall. Combined, these two shoreline stabilization techniques will protect the shoreline from further erosion and extend the service life of the facility.

Our in-house team of experts across our family of companies provided various solutions to protect our shoreline. Click here to learn more about our Marine & Shoreline Stabilization Services.
