Steve Higgins, VP for Payne & Dolan, Inc. participated in a “Boss Lift” event last month at Camp Grayling, MI. – Volk Field to experience firsthand what employees from the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are involved in while they are away from work for military duty.
Steve was invited by Jesse Augustine, a Payne & Dolan Scheduler out of our Kenosha office and National Guard soldier who was participating in training at Camp Grayling. Jesse left in a convoy from Camp Douglas on July 6th and was involved in active training throughout the month of July, returning home on the 28th. The “Boss Lift” is sponsored by Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
The ESGR is comprised of dedicated and trained volunteers and staff who develop and promote employer support for the Guard and Reserve by advocating relevant initiatives, recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of applicable laws, and resolving conflict between employers and Service members.
The day begins with a C-130 Bosslift (supported by the 182nd Airlift Wing based in Peoria, IL.) to Camp Grayling, MI. from Volk Field at Camp Douglas.
When the employers arrived at Camp Grayling, they learned about the Exportable Combat Training Capability (XCTC) Exercise. Steve enjoyed seeing some of the equipment and weapons they use, learning about the details of this training and also learning more about the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
He also experienced first-hand the food that our service members eat, “Meals – Ready to Eat” or MRE, at lunch.
“The time our Reservists spend training in the field and the repetitions and tactics they use, as explained by Jesse, was both informative and impressive. This is intense training and fully prepares our reserves to deploy if needed,” said Steve.
The Boss Lift is an excellent program offering employers an inside-look that is typically not available. Who wouldn’t enjoy a ride in a C130? No matter what age we may be, having the ability to step into the cockpit of a military aircraft is really cool!
