Walbec’s Human Resources team signed a letter of commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) with Jobs for the Future (JFF). JFF’s National Innovation Hub for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility provides strategies and customized support to employers, education partners, intermediaries, and government entities to drive diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in Registered Apprenticeship. Their goal is to improve access and outcomes for women, people of color, people with disabilities, workers who live in rural communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and individuals who have been involved with the criminal justice system.
By signing JFF’s DEIA Pledge, Walbec joins a community of local, state, and national employers and labor partners who support removing barriers and increasing access to high-quality Registered Apprenticeships. We’re proud to continue to concentrate our outreach efforts on the accessibility of apprenticeships, a path for building a solid career in the trades through on-the-job training and related instruction. In attendance today were Joshua Johnson, JFF’s Director of National Innovation Hub for DEIA in Registered Apprenticeships, and the Wisconsin State Director of Apprenticeship, David Polk, and Tracey Griffith, Walbec Group’s Director of Outreach & Partnership.
Wisconsin Apprenticeship is an “earn while you learn” program providing on-the-job training and related instruction. The employer teaches the skills of the occupation. An area technical college or private training center teaches the theoretical knowledge of the specific occupation. With 75 youth apprenticeship pathways and more than 200 registered apprenticeship programs, there are many different career paths available to Wisconsin Apprentices.
